In the right mixture, hydrogen peroxide is an all-rounder. It can be used as a cleaning agent, for car care and for health. These application examples show why it should not be missing in any household.
1. The composition
Hydrogen peroxide is a liquid compound of hydrogen and oxygen, the chemical name of which is H2O2. It occurs naturally in rainwater or snow and can be produced artificially.
Mixtures with a maximum of twelve percent are available for private households. The higher concentrations are highly corrosive and reserved for industrial use. Hydrogen peroxide is most commonly used as a bleaching agent for cell fibers in the wood industry. In the trade it is used to restore old pieces of solid wood furniture.
The production of hydrogen peroxide is environmentally friendly. When used, it breaks down into its constituent parts without leaving any harmful by-products. This enabled it to assert itself against compounds containing chlorine in industry.
2. Use in kitchen and bathroom
The three percent solution is suitable for cleaning with hydrogen peroxide. In this concentration it can be used safely in the bathroom and kitchen.

With its antibacterial properties, hydrogen peroxide is suitable as a mouth rinse. It breathes fresh, kills bacteria and prevents gingivitis. The administration of hydrogen peroxide stimulates the animal’s gag reflex and removes the toxic substances from the stomach. The amount should be adapted to the dog’s weight and agreed with the veterinarian.
Pets running freely cause other problems. They roll in mud and traverse littered places. Hydrogen peroxide removes unpleasant odors from the animal’s fur. In combination with baking soda and washing-up liquid, it forms a foam with which the pet is soaped. The mixture should not get into the body orifices and should be thoroughly rinsed from the fur.
11. Cleaning of everyday objects
The keyboard is a playground for pathogens. Hydrogen peroxide disinfects the bacterial focus. Cotton swabs and toothbrush are useful tools to reach the area between the letters.
Diluted with water, hydrogen peroxide removes germs from make-up brushes, kitchen sponges and potholders. They are immersed in the solution for several minutes and then left to dry. The solution is mixed in equal parts.
